January 25, 2021 – “Since I Left Ye…”
Strategic Relationships Pathway, Project 1: Icebreaker. I rejoined Southlake Toastmasters this year after an almost 5-year hiatus due to my move to Houston in 2016. Today I offered this Icebreaker in which I re-introduced myself to the Club, described my Hurricane Harvey and ride share experiences and discussed future goals and how my Toastmasters journey will help me achieve them.
August 3, 2015 – “Welcome to Cayman!”
The Entertaining Speaker Project 3: Make Them Laugh. Writing a speech designed to draw laughs from the audience was one of the more daunting assignments in my Toastmasters experience thus far. Fortunately, it was a success. Shared a personal story about my wife and I briefly exploring moving to Cayman early in our marriage.
June 15, 2015 – “The Call No Parent Wants to Receive”
The Entertaining Speaker Project 4: The Dramatic Talk. I skipped project 3 to deliver this talk in the aftermath of my kids’ automobile accident the week before. Shared 3 tips for driver safety based on my professional experience: (1) Always wear your seatbelt; (2) Sit as far back from the dashboard as safely possible; (3) Be aware and don’t be the distracted driver. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
April 13, 2015 – “The Oxford Hotel”
The Entertaining Speaker Project 2: Resources for Entertainment. Shared the history of The Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colorado, focusing primarily on it’s claim to fame as one of Denver’s most haunted buildings. Tied it’s history into my personal experience during a recent stay.

The Entertaining Speaker Project 1: The Entertaining Speech. Shared my account of a Grand Cayman North Wall dive gone wrong when two individuals in our dive party emptied their air tanks midway through the dive! Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
December 22, 2014 – “Bloom Where You’re Planted”
CCM Project 10: Inspire Your Audience. Discussed the importance of living each day to yield it’s best benefits while glorifying God in the process. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
December 9, 2014 – “Santa is Real”
CCM Project 9: Persuade With Power. Offered at our Toastmasters Christmas party, the speech encouraged the audience to practice acts of kindness towards others during the holidays and all throughout the year.
November 17, 2014 – “This Place Is Perfect”
CCM Project 8: Get Comfortable With Visual Aids. With our house on Lake Tyler as the backdrop, I reminded the audience that it is important to be thankful for all we’ve been given, and that others can offer perspective to help us in that endeavor. Used handouts to reinforce the message. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
November 3, 2014 – “The Credibility Bank & Trust”
CCM Project 7: Research Your Topic. Discussed the importance of personal credibility in building and maintaining one’s reputation at work and at home using a bank checking account as an object lesson. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
July 28, 2014 – “Business Travel Adventures”
CCM Project 6: Vocal Variety. Described a few of the adventures and mishaps I’ve experienced during business travel, using each to remind the audience to make lemonade out of lemons. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
March 31, 2014 – “I Didn’t Get a Trophy”
CCM Project 5: Your Body Speaks. Inspirational speech touting the importance of healthy competition in helping individuals of all ages grow and mature into productive members of society. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
October 21, 2013 – “Under the Sea”
CCM Project 4: How To Say It. Word picture speech in which I described the beauty and wonder of some of my favorite SCUBA diving sites and experiences in Grand Cayman, BWI. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
July 22, 2013 – “Slow Down”
CCM Project 3: Get To The Point. Motivational speech discussing the importance of slowing down in today’s fast-pace life so we take notice and appreciate the people and sights around us. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
May 20, 2013 – “Life’s Soundtrack”
CCM Project 2: Organize Your Speech. Motivational speech discussing the importance and influence music has on one’s life. Used three personal life examples to motivate the audience of approximately 25 Toastmasters. Won “Best Speaker” award for this meeting.
